Christmas at Hillsborough Trinity

25/12/2014

Christmas morning 2014                  Christmas eve 2014
Our Christmas 2014 morning service at Hillsborough, included the dedication of our beautiful new sanctuary furniture, which arrived just before Christmas eve.

This completes the transformation of the church space into a modern multi-purpose open space, for worship and other activities.

(The colour of the wall in reality matches the colour of the carpet, honestly!)

Trinity has always had a collection of items of furniture from various gifts and closures over the years, so the final element in the transformation of the church space was to commission a matching set of furniture.

We had it made in Thirsk in Yorkshire, to our own designs, in oak, and so it will be the only one of its kind.

We will be able to use the two former lecterns in other places in the building.

Four members of the congregation each read a Christmas reading and said a prayer, specifically about one of the items of furniture:

·       Sheila for the Trinity leaders prayed about our communion around the table and into the neighbourhood;

·     Ellen for the Trinity young people stood at the font and read and prayed about the children of the future and our welcome to them;

·        Liz for the Carlton Road congregation stood at the lectern and read and prayed about lessons from the bible and other wise writings that we will hear from the lectern, and

·   Doreen for the Birley Carr congregation stood at the preaching desk and read and prayed that the Word will be spoken from this desk, and we might hear and live the Word in our own lives.

It was a happy and moving service, which drew together the elements of our lives together.

We ended with a blazing rendition of “Come and join the celebrations!”

We stood in a circle round the new font, whose oak and steel represent the life and history of Sheffield, and shared the blessing with each other, and then joined in the photo.

It feels like we have now completed stage one of the transformation of our church into the 21st century.
